The Village School or Trường Làng is a concept that dates back to the feudal period in Vietnam, when education was limited to those with money and power. It refers to the small classes that scholars bring to their local communities. As an initiative, the Village School brings to Vietnamese youth stories of history and culture to help them connect with their roots and with each other.

The first year of the Village School’s programming contains three editorial pieces: A history textbook that documents oral teachings paralleling with history currents of Vietnam, an archive collecting the stories of different time period and illustrating diverse Vietnamese perspectives, a newspaper that ties the intersection of Viet culture with other communities in the world showing how similar and interconnected people of the Earth are. Accompanied with the collection is a guidebook that details the missions of Village School, along with a set of posters for participants of the program to bring home.
